Communications and Public Relations Specialist

Global Standard gGmbH, the non-profit organisation behind GOTS, one of the world's leading textile processing standards for organic fibres, is seeking a dedicated Communications and Public Relations Manager to join our international team. We value your strategic thinking, creative storytelling, and ability to craft compelling narratives that shape public perception and engagement. This is a remote home-office position, and fluency in both German and English is desired. Travel may be required when necessary. Since this is a remote position, there are no geographical limitations for the applicant.

You will
- Develop and oversee an annual media and communications strategy to strengthen Global Standard’s position as a thought leader in responsible textile production.
- Play a key role in shaping and advancing Global Standard’s external narrative, ensuring consistent and impactful messaging across all channels.
- Engage in proactive media outreach, identifying opportunities to enhance visibility in both digital and traditional media.
- Manage day-to-day media relations, including developing responses, written statements, Q&As, social media content, arranging interviews, liaising with journalists, and tracking and measuring media coverage.
- Produce compelling written content for external channels, including press releases, media responses, interviews, reports, blog posts, and social media.
- Appear in videos and social media content to communicate Global Standard’s message effectively, ensuring an engaging and approachable public presence.
- Develop and refine key messages on topics related to Global Standard’s work, reinforcing its credibility and authority in the field.
- Adapt communication strategies to suit different audiences and contexts, from industry professionals to consumers and policymakers.
- Build and nurture strong relationships with high-profile media outlets, ensuring Global Standard is a trusted source of information.
- Craft engaging stories and manage corporate communications to mitigate potential negative media cycles.
- Organise, plan, and prepare press interviews, press conferences, and public speaking engagements for Global Standard representatives.
Who you are
- Passionate about media relations, confident in engaging with journalists, and proactive in seeking media opportunities.
- Ideally an English and German native speaker ( at least a native-level English speaker).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and German.
- At least 3-4 years of experience in communications, PR, or media relations in a demanding and fast-paced environment.
- Ability to write clearly and concisely about complex topics, making them accessible to different audiences.
- Proven track record of securing top-tier, positive media coverage and maintaining strong media relationships.
- Experience as a trusted communications advisor on media issues and crisis communications.
- Comfortable in front of the camera, willing to appear in videos and social media content to represent Global Standard’s work.
- A positive, collaborative team player, able to work across time zones in a global organisation.
- Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy, particularly in written communications and media briefings.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a remote team environment.
- A strong interest in sustainability and familiarity with Voluntary Sustainability Standards (VSS).
