The Synthetic and Art Silk Mills' Research Association organized a gathering of its alumni on 14th October, 2015 in Mumbai, India. The theme of the event was ‘Smart Vision 2020’. GOTS representative in India Mr. Sumit Gupta was invited as an external expert to speak on ‘Sustainability and GOTS Certification for Holistic Growth’. Mr. Gupta spoke about basic features of GOTS as a sustainability standard and how sustainability related research initiatives are vital to holistic growth of textile industry.
He emphasized that the entrepreneurs need to take a top-down approach to sustainability and the top management must adopt sustainable practices as a management approach for long term competitive gains, rather than responding to external demands for compliances and sustainable products. The lecture was much appreciated by the organisers and attendees, which comprised of both industry professionals and entrepreneurs.
